Have you ever felt like, despite being great at your role, you’re not fully conveying the confidence and influence you want as a leader? That’s exactly where my coaching client, Adam, a Director of Marketing for a leading film production company, found himself.
Adam is exceptionally talented—his innovative marketing strategies consistently deliver results. But when it came to leadership, he wasn’t projecting the Executive Presence that inspires confidence and trust. He wasn’t fully leveraging his core strengths to communicate his value and lead with impact.
Does that sound like you? The good news is that when you identify and lean into your unique strengths, you can transform how you show up as a leader. Here’s how Adam did it—and how you can, too.
1. Define and Own Your Core Strengths
When you clearly understand and embrace your unique strengths, you start to see your leadership through a new lens. Knowing your strengths gives you the confidence to show up authentically, which is key to establishing presence and influence.
How You Can Apply This:
Take some time to reflect on your strengths. Think about:
· What do others consistently compliment you on?
· What feels natural to you but has a significant impact?
· What makes you stand out in your role?
Once you’ve identified these strengths, practice highlighting them in your daily interactions—whether that’s in team meetings, project updates, or brainstorming sessions.
2. Lead Through Your Strengths
When you lead through your strengths, you naturally connect with others in a more compelling and authentic way. It’s not about trying to fit into someone else’s mold—it’s about using your strengths to inspire and energize those around you.
How You Can Apply This:
Think about your leadership style:
· Are you an excellent communicator? Use that to simplify and energize complex ideas.
· Do you have a knack for problem-solving? Position yourself as the go-to person for clarity in challenging situations.
· Is empathy your superpower? Use it to build stronger relationships and foster collaboration.
Leverage these strengths to leave a lasting impact, no matter the scenario.
3. Align Your Strengths with Organizational Goals
Aligning your strengths with organizational priorities shows that you're not just contributing—you’re driving results that matter. Leaders with a strong presence don’t just stand out; they create a connection between their unique strengths and the company’s success.
How You Can Apply This:
Ask yourself:
· How do my strengths address the company’s challenges or priorities?
· How can I communicate my value in a way that aligns with what the organization needs?
Once you’ve made those connections, highlight them in meetings, one-on-ones, or performance reviews. Make it clear how your contributions are advancing key objectives.
